Best Buy Coaches Call: Jamie Archer, Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse. Despite key injuries late in the season, Archer has led the Red Rams to the top spot in the state Class B rankings and the Section III Class B title, earned June 2 in an 11-8 victory over Auburn.
Bottar-Leone Breakout Performance: Taylor Malmsheimer, Cazenovia softball. Malmsheimer had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Lakers to a 5-0 shutout of Westhill in the Class B semifinals on June 2.
HSBC Hometown Hero: Derek Bard, New Hartford boys golf. Bard won the individual championship at the Section III state qualifying tournament, held May 27 and 29 at Colgate University's Seven Oaks course.
Landmasters Landmark Play: Liverpool's 4x800 relay team of Zavon Watkins, Colin Savage, Alex Wilke and Chris Clemons breaking its own year-old Section III record in the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:43.62 at the state qualifying meet on June 4.
McDonald's Team of the Week: Westhill baseball. The defending state Class B champions routed undefeated, state no. 1-ranked Bishop Ludden 10-2 in the Section III Class B title game on June 2 at Alliance Bank Stadium.
Metro Mattress MVP: Kevin Rice, Skaneateles boys lacrosse. Rice, the undefeated Lakers' leading scorer in 2010, had five goals and one assist as his team beat LaFayette 18-11 for the Class C championship on June 2.
Mirbeau Inn and Spa Megastar: Anthony Magovney, Watertown IHC baseball. Magovney pitched a three-hitter, with 10 strikeouts, and also drove in the winning run as the Cavaliers beat state no. 2-ranked Westmoreland 3-2 for the Class C-1 championship on May 31.
OCC Student-Athlete: Corey Herrington, West Genesee boys lacrosse. Herrington had all three of his team's goals in the first half, pushing the Wildcats to an 8-3 victory over Corcoran in the Class A final on June 4.
Papa Sports Venue: Gillette Road complex in Cicero, where on June 7 the Section III softball championships will be decided after weather forced a two-day postponement of all five games.
Sam's Auto Body Show-Stopper: Chris Kellogg, Copenhagen baseball. Kellogg pitched a complete game, also earning two RBIs at the plate, as the Gold Knights beat Oriskany 11-2 in the Class D final on June 1.
Sports PT Superstar: Rebecca Rogers, Hamilton softball. Just a seventh-grader, Rogers pitched her way to 15 strikeouts, adding two hits and an RBI in the Emerald Knights' 7-1 victory over New York Mils in the Class D semifinals on June 2.
Strength In Motion Standout: Caleb Edmonds, Cooperstown boys track and field. Edmonds won the mile, 3,200-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase and led the Redskins to the Class C-2 championship on May 29.
Supercuts Sensational Play: Kristen Ryan, Bishop Ludden softball. Ryan drove in all three of her team's runs as the Gaelic Knights topped Fabius-Pompey in the Class C-2 championship game on June 2.
Testone, Marshall and DiScenza Defensive Athlete: Brendan Heitz, Whitesboro baseball, throwing out VVS's Collin Laguzza at the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning to keep the game going in the Class A final on June 1. The Warriors went on to score four times in the ninth to win 8-4.
Travel Leaders Top Performer: Ashley Palmer, Phoenix girls track and field. Palmer won the Division II 200-meter dash, long jump and triple jump at the state qualifying meet on June 3.
U.S. Army Male Athlete: Steve Komanecky, Auburn baseball. Komanecky threw 6 2/3 innings of two-hit ball, helping the Maroons beat Liverpool 7-2 in the Class AA championship game on June 2 to atone for losses in the finals each of the last two years.
U.S. Army Female Athlete: Kierra Arthur, Utica Proctor girls track and field. Arthur prevailed in the Division I 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles during the Section III state qualifier on June 3.
